1) What is Pure-le Natural Oil of Oregano?
Our oregano oil is a potent natural antimicrobial agent that is ideal for warding off illnesses or taken as needed to combat specific health concerns. Oil of oregano has been used for gastrointestinal upset, parasites, fungal infections such as Candida albicans, cuts, burns, bruises and abrasions, skin conditions such as athletes foot, ringworm, eczema and acne, allergies, joint pain, colds & flu, and coughs and respiratory disorders. Pure-le Natural Oil of Oregano is a pure, edible spice oil that is 100% natural. It is made exclusively from pure medicinal oregano (Origanum vulgare ).
2) How is Pure-le Natural Oil of Oregano different from culinary (food) oregano?
Culinary oregano that you would purchase in a grocery store, is actually usually sweet marjoram, thyme or sage. These spices do not contain medicinal grade oregano. Medicinal Oregano from the Mediterranean, in comparison, is a clinically proven rich source of numerous antimicrobial agents as well as beneficial vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper and phosphorus, vitamin-B, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamin-C, and beta-carotene.
3) How does Oil of Oregano work?
Pure-le Natural Oil of Oregano has naturally occurring carvacrol, a type of phenol, and thymol. Working together, these compounds give oil of oregano broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, making it antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic. Medicinal oregano is also rich in mucopolysaccarides, compounds that help decrease inflammation, and natural solvents, which break down fungal cell membranes. Researchers believe that these various compounds in oil of oregano enable it to impair or destroy bacteria and fungi, and to disrupt viral cell replication. Oil of oregano is also a potent expectorant and worm-expellant.
4) Are there published clinical studies to support the use of Medicinal Oregano?
There are more than 30 published research studies that confirm the antimicrobial properties of oil of oregano. In 2001, researchers from Georgetown University found that even at low doses, oil of oregano is as effective against Staphylococcus bacteria as antibiotics such as penicillin. They also stated that oregano oil might be an effective treatment against drug-resistant bacterial infections. (Science Daily 10/11/2001.) Recent In Vitro research conducted by Microbiotest, Inc (Sterling, VA) demonstrated that Oregano has a potent direct killing effect against the Human Corona Virus, as well as having the ability to halt virus replication in host cells infected with the Human Corona Virus. A clinical study in Italy demonstrated the antifungal activities of oil of oregano against parasitic infections. In this study, 14 patients with enteric parasites were given oil of oregano for six weeks. Results showed that in 13 of 14 cases, 100% of parasites were expelled, and that in 11 cases gastrointestinal symptoms declined. (Phytotherapy Research 2000 May;14(3):213-14.) In addition, researchers at Aristotle University in Greece determined that oregano was a potent antioxidant which may explain its positive actions against inflammation. (Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry 2003 May 7;51(10):2930-6.)
5) Are there any side-effects from taking Oil of Oregano?
There are no reported side-effects from taking Oil of Oregano. When taking it internally a slight warming in the upper-chest is common and when using it externally a slight warming sensation is normal.
6) Does Pure-le Natural use Wild Oregano?
Yes, however Our Oregano is far superior to those companies claiming to use "Wild" Oregano!
According to the world-renowned herbal expert Dr. James Duke (United States Department of Agriculture) "Wild Oregano" is another name for "Common Oregano", the species of medicinal oregano (Origanum vulgare) that we use in our products. Each batch of our oregano is lab tested to verify the species identity and natural carvacrol content prior to manufacture.
Many companies claim to use oregano that is grown wild and hand harvested in the Mediterranean. Unfortunately growing herbs in these widely variable conditions is not an optimal way to create therapeutic oregano. It leads to large variations in quality, consistency and therapeutic constituents.

9) What does the Physicians' Desk Reference (the bible for Medical Doctors) for Herbal Medicines, say about oregano?
Indications and Usage: The herb is used for respiratory disorders and complaints such as coughs and bronchial catarrh, and as an expectorant. In folk medicine it is used for dyspepsia, painful menstruation, rheumatoid arthritis, scrofula, urinary tract disorders, and as a diaphoretic (used to increase perspiration).

11) Is the oregano used in the Pure-le Natural Oregano products pure?
Yes! We only use pure medicinal Mediterranean Oregano (Origanum vulgare) in our products. Many companies claim to have a "secret formula" or blend of oreganos which are supposed to be higher potency. This is quite disturbing as virtually all studies and literature on oregano refer specifically to the pure species we use Origanum vulgare, not blends of oreganos
The oregano we use Origanum vulgare (True Medicinal Oregano) is the only species which has been researched for decades and is naturally high in phenols, including carvacrol without genetic modification or chemical spiking . Spiking is the process of adding chemical marker compounds (i.e. synthetic carvacrol ) to a herb to make it appear to be of higher quality.
Our oregano is grown in the Mediterranean in the traditional way, without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemicals. It is tested for species purity and quality and then it is steam distilled to gently extract the valuable oil we use in our products.
We are the only company able to obtain independent certification of the purity our oregano products. Pure-le Natural is a certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) manufacturer and each lot is certified pure by the Kashruth Council of Canada.
12) Can I take probiotics (acidophilus and other friendly bacterium) with Pure-le Natural Oregano products or do I have to be concerned as I am with antibiotics?
Feel free to take probiotics with any Pure-le Natural product including our Medicinal Spice Oils and Oreganos. In fact we encourage people to take probiotics to increase their overall health no matter what supplements they are using.
Pharmaceutical antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria indiscriminately. They make no differentiation between friendly (probiotics) or harmful (pathogenic) bacteria. Some are capable of destroying all the good bacteria in your digestive tract in as little as one treatment.
Oregano is a discriminant antibiotic. Because it is a food and our ancestors have been eating it for thousands of years, our bodies have adapted to the intake of oregano. Because of this our bodies are able to take oregano regularly without it causing difficulties. In fact clinical trials have shown that probiotic bacteria can become resistant to "spice antibiotics". This resistance allows these natural antibiotics to have a profound effect against pathogenic (harmful) bacteria while having no effect on friendly bacteria (probiotics).
Medicinal spices are unique in that they can strengthen your immune system, and defend your body against pathogenic (harmful) organisms without causing harmful side effects. Shouldn't you be using them?
13) Are there any problems with taking oregano and prescription medications?
If you are taking pharmaceutical blood thinners (Coumadin, Warfarin, etc.) it is recommended that you exercise caution because oregano has a naturally occurring slight blood thinning effect.
Oregano has Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status. This indicates that it is widely regarded as a safe product to use. Of course if you are allergic to oregano please do not use any product containing oregano.
Oregano has no known interactions with over the counter (OTC) or prescription drugs.
The only known repeatable result from taking oregano has been improved health, vim, and vigor.
14) Can my children take oregano? If so, how and how much?
Yes children can take oregano. Remember always to keep it away from the child's eyes and mucus membranes. When trying to get a child to take oregano liquid, users have had success placing the drops in unpasteurized honey.
Children 3-5 years
Internally:
1 drop of regular strength oil of oregano in one tablespoon of honey, once daily with a meal.
Externally:
2-3 drops of regular strength oil of oregano diluted in 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil or vitamin E cream as a chest rub to relieve night-time congestion, cough, colds and Flu.
Children 6-12 Years
Internally:
1-3 drops of regular strength oil of oregano in one tablespoon of honey, once daily with a meal. Alternately your child can take 1 Super Strength Oil of Oregano Organicap® in place of the oregano liquid.
Externally:
4-6 drops of regular strength oil of oregano diluted in 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil or vitamin E cream as a throat and chest rub to relieve night-time congestion, cough, colds and Flu.
Teens
Internally:
2-5 drops of regular strength oil of oregano under the tongue. Drink water or juice immediately. Take with meals up to three times daily. Alternately your child can take 1 -2 Super Strength Oil of Oregano Organicaps® in place of the oregano liquid.
Externally:
4-6 drops of regular strength oil of oregano diluted in 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil or vitamin E cream as a throat and chest rub to relieve night-time congestion, cough, colds and Flu.
15) Can I take Oregano while pregnant or breast feeding?
There are certain oregano products which you can take during pregnancy and breast feeding. The following guidelines list which products you can take and appropriate amounts.
Breast feeding Mothers:

Our two oregano liquids have the exact same ingredients. The only differences are strength and size. Super Strength Oil of Oregano is twice (2X) the strength of our regular oregano liquid. Each drop of Super Strength Oil of Oregano is equivalent to 2 drops of our regular strength Oil of Oregano. The other difference is size. Super Strength Oil of Oregano comes in a 15ml bottle, while our regular strength oil of Oregano is packaged in a 10ml bottle. 20) What is the difference between Super Strength Oil of Oregano and Super Strength Oil of Oregano Organicaps®?
